ABC News misquotes Huckabee and it reveals alot about the main-stream media. Here’s the misquote:
“Huckabee’s message to supporters Tuesday night tweaked the institutional support and millions of dollars enjoyed by Romney, and he spoke with the biblical flourishes that the Baptist minister often adds to his speeches. ‘Tonight, we are making sure America understands that sometimes, one small smooth stone is sometimes more effective than a whole lot of armor,’ Huckabee told supporters. ‘And we’ve also seen that the winner’s might has more effectiveness than all the gold in the world.’”
How funny and well, maybe offensive even. Here, ABC News is showing its ignorance of the Bible and by extension, its adherents. Not only did the reporter get the quote wrong, the editorial staff did not pick it up before it went to press. It is a stunning indictment about the lack of biblical knowledge that the ABC News staff has and even how lazy they are (didn’t even attempt to cross-reference the biblical allusions). From the text, it looks like the reporter seemed to know the king David allusion (old Testament), but knew nothing of the Luke 21 “widow’s mite” allusion where Jesus spoke of the poor widow giving out of her need. But, she gave for the right reasons, and it meant more to God than the rich giving alot (though proportionately much less) out of wrong motives. This was a subtle and stinging jab to some of the other Republican candidates. With his “widow’s mite” allusion, Huckabee is admitting that God has helped him do so much more with less money but for the right reasons. It was a brilliant message that fell on democratically-inclined deaf ears. However, for the faith-based Christian voter, we heard and understood it implicitly, and it showed on Super Tuesday.
