There was a time when the Republican Party cared about the people, and as such, was a populist party. The party lines have shifted to the extreme, where the GOP is painted as the Big Business / Big Money party… and no rebuttal has occured because it is true.
There are, however, those of us in the republican party who believe in the ideals of grassroots movements, and personal responsiblity, and holding corporations responsible for the role they play in our lives via advertising and bad products being sold as ideal.
These are not Democrat ideas… they are down to earth, real, human ideas.
The GOP has lost focus on the people, and seems to care more about protecting the big whigs at the top.
There is a serious case of class warfare already happening. It is a case where the ones at the top are profitting from those at the bottom. The system is being set up so that it is increasingly impossible to climb the ladder, and achieve the American Dream. As the gap in income and living style continues, there will be more frustration with the system.
Huckabee may be right on when he advocates for Main Street over Wall Street… but that does not make him a Democrat.
Remember, it was Reagan who began the Reagan Revolution in the party, uniting the SoCon, FiCons, and Faith Voters. But this era seems to be coming to an end as the party can no longer meet the demands of all those groups. So what is happening is the beginning of a new era in the GOP, where human elements are going to be required to win… such as appealing to doing what is right versus wrong, not what is right versus left.
The political field is changing… That is why there is no clear front-runner. That is why there is so much hatred of the other candidates. And that is why people are scared of Huckabee, because he represents the end of the Reagan Era, and the beginning of something new.
