From the newsroom…
Two former Republican legislators from Mike Huckabee ’s home state are in Iowathis week criticizing Huckabee’s record on immigration and taxes on trips paid for by Ron Paul, Huckabee’s Republican presidential rival.
Paul’s campaign said Thursday it was paying former Sen. Jim Holt and former Rep. Randy Minton about $5,000 each to go to Iowa for a series of radio interviews criticizing Huckabee’s 10 1/2 years as Arkansas governor.
First, let’s meet these guys who are making the trek up to Iowa as mercenaries for Ron Paul…Let that soak in….RON PAUL…I would hope that Jim Holt and Randy Minton would have more sense than to take money from Mr. Medical Marijuana himself….But of course they don’t…Jim Holt is about the most lame Republican in this state…Followed very closely by Randy Minton…Jim Holt is about the most beatable Republican in this state followed closely by Mr. Minton…Thats why the state party is in shambles….I guess they are jealous that Huckabee won as a Republican and they lost…But alas what do I know…Unlike Mr. Holt and Mr. Minton, I haven’t lost races that anybody with a brain could’ve won…These guys have been beat like drums…Arkansas Democrats love these two clowns…because thats what they are…clowns….clowns for hire by who…thats right…Mr Head Clown himself….RON PAUL…
UPDATE: Here is what is Right with the State Republican Party…
Gilbert Baker, a state senator and former Arkansas GOP chair, came to Des Moines yesterday with a handful of other Natural State Republicans. It was a bit of a preemptive move to inoculate their candidate against those Arkansas conservatives who will arrive here this weekend to bash Huck.
I asked Baker during a press conference at Huck’s Iowa headquarters why it is that so many legislators in Little Rock had been hesitant to get behind one of their own. He admitted that that had initially been the case because they were looking for somebody who could beat Hillary (implied but unsaid was that they were unsure Huck was up to the task).
Now, however, Baker said he was getting calls from his colleagues in the Legislature wanting to know how they can help their former governor.
Nothing changed, of course. Except for the polls.
